2018 Skoda Superb Sportline - Video Road Report

Video Road Report

We video test the 2018 Skoda Superb Sportline.

The top-spec 206kW version of the Skoda Superb is generally regarded as being a thoroughly excellent, remarkably well-equipped car that also happens to be a rather handsome thing.

So how do you top that? By giving it even more spec and make it even better looking, if Skoda’s latest Sportline variant is anything to go by.

The standard AWD 206kW car features autonomous braking, a driver alert system, heated electric folding side mirrors, cornering lights, front and rear parking sensors with a backing camera, dual zone climate air conditioning, an electrically adjustable driver’ seat, heated front seats, an electric rear hatch, LED interior and ambient lights, Bluetooth with a signal booster, satellite navigation and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto phone integration, leather/alcantara interior trim, full leather trim, 19-inch alloy wheels, lane assist and blind spot detection, keyless entry and start, rear privacy glass and electrically adjustable front seats with lumbar support, radar cruise control, a park assist function, heated rear seats and an upgraded infotainment/navigation system.

The new Sportline ups this by adding a performance monitor, a flat-bottomed sports steering wheel with shift paddles, aluminum sports pedals, gloss black grille, door mirrors and roof rails (on the wagon) or spoiler (on the liftback), a Sportline specific alloy wheel design, Alcantara sports seats and Skoda’s XDS electronic sports differential.

With all this you also get the silky smooth 206kW/350Nm version of the VW/Audi Group’s 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder petrol turbo engine hooked up to a six-speed DSG transmission.

On the road this translates into effortless performance combined with the Superb’s excellent ride and handling prowess. The power comes on smoothly and seamlessly and the big car belts forward when you touch the throttle.

The AWD system provides a fantastically sure-footed character to the Superb and the steering is direct and delightfully weighted.

The Skoda Superb is an excellent car, and the 206kW version even more so. The new Sportline variant takes all this excellence and simply makes it even better. And better looking too.
