Škoda Saturdays

Join Sarah Wallace and her family as they spend their weekend with the all-new Škoda Kodiaq.

Skye Ross

As Saturday afternoon rolled around, Skye Ross, her partner Mark and their two daughters, piled into the Škoda Kodiaq, complete with car seats, scooters, and a picnic blanket. Their destination: a family weekend escape to Matakana.

The trip began with typical New Zealand weather - bouts of heavy rain. But with lane assist providing peace of mind during moments of low visibility, Skye felt safe behind the wheel for the entire drive.

Meanwhile inside the Kodiaq, there was plenty of room for all passengers who felt comfortable in the modern interior. Skye even found her giant water bottle could actually fit in the cup holder, and this was just one of the little features she noticed made the experience even more premium than her current Kodiaq model.

After a quick stop for a wander in Matakana village, the family arrived at their accommodation. As the designated ‘bag lady’, Skye found the dance between the house and car effortless with the Kodiaq’s keyless entry.

Then came time for a trip to Omaha where Mark braved the weather and went surfing while Skye and the girls wandered the beach. Feeling a little bit frozen, everyone jumped back into the Kodiaq with the luxury of the heated seats, a welcome reprieve from the chill outside.

Dinner at The Matakana Pub warmed everyone up a little bit more and was a chance for the family to reflect on how this new Kodiaq model had all the familiarity of their current Škoda but with some impressive all-round upgrades.

The next morning started off slow with some boardgames and reading followed by coffees and fluffies once the family had checked out of their accommodation. With all the different stops, there was extra appreciation for the Kodiaq’s door guards which acted as a reassuring safety feature throughout the family’s adventure.

Not quite ready to say farewell to the weekend yet, the family headed up further north to a Reptile Park in Ti Point and then for one last walk along the beach at Goat Island.

On the drive home, the wireless smartphone charging came in useful after plenty of photo opps over the past couple of days. Describing it as “the ultimate family SUV” Skye shared that the Kodiaq provided the perfect combination of safety, functionality, and luxury. She and Mark chatted about how this would be the perfect sized car for accommodating friends after school and during weekend sports games too.

Then came the realisation that this trip would even go down in history as the first family road trip free of complaints from the girls about the sun being in their eyes thanks to the Kodiaq’s built-in sunshades.

With no less than six rainbows spotted on the trip (when the sun did peak out from behind the clouds) and requests from the girls to “please get one like this!” Skye was left wondering whether this was a sign to get a brand new Škoda Kodiaq of their own.
